Moldova’s President Maia Sandu Sworn in for a Second Term

Moldovan President Maia Sandu was officially sworn in for her second term on Tuesday, local media reported.

During the ceremony, held before the Parliament and the Constitutional Court, Sandu reflected on the nation’s achievements. “We can be proud that, despite the challenges, we have managed to be on the right side of history and to defend democracy,” she stated.

She emphasized her vision for Moldova’s future, saying, “Moldova has voted for a clear direction — a developed country, a nation ensuring greater security and prosperity.”

Sandu, 52, secured her second term in November’s presidential runoff election, winning 55.33% of the vote against her opponent, Alexandr Stoianoglo, who received 44.67%.

First elected in 2020 with 57.72% of the vote, Sandu made history as the first woman to hold the presidency in Moldova. Her leadership continues to symbolize a commitment to progress and democratic values.
