Militants Blow Up Gas Pipeline in Northwestern Pakistan, Cutting Supply to Punjab

KARACHI – Suspected militants destroyed a major gas pipeline in northwestern Pakistan on Wednesday, disrupting supply to Punjab, the country’s largest province, police confirmed. The blast occurred in the volatile Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where explosives were planted on the pipeline before detonation, police spokesman Amir Khan told reporters. The explosion halted gas flow to Punjab’s Mianwali region.
This marks the fourth attack at the same location in under three months. While no group has claimed responsibility, security officials suspect the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a militant network known for targeting security forces and government infrastructure. Authorities say the group has repeatedly struck in the area, with a history of deadly assaults on police and military personnel.
Security forces launched a search operation to track down the attackers. Lakki Marwat remains one of Pakistan’s most dangerous districts, with persistent violence and militant activity undermining stability. The recent series of attacks underscores the enduring threat posed by the TTP in the region, despite ongoing counterterrorism efforts.
