Mexico to Challenge Trump’s ‘Gulf of America’ Renaming with Google

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced on Wednesday that her government will send a letter to US tech giant Google, challenging President Donald Trump’s executive order to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America.”
Sheinbaum addressed the issue during a press conference, emphasizing that Mexico will not accept the US attempt to rename the body of water, particularly as much of it lies in international waters. She also expressed concerns about the implications for international law and the naming authority over seas.
While Google confirmed it would rename the Gulf for its US users, maintaining the original name in Mexico and displaying both names for users outside the US and Mexico, Sheinbaum reiterated that the US government lacks the right to make such changes.
