Mexico: President Sheinbaum calls for recognition of the State of Palestine

MEXICO CITY – Mexico’s new president, Claudia Sheinbaum, on Saturday called for the recognition of the State of Palestine in order to attain peace in the Middle East.

In her first statement on the matter since assuming office on October 1, President Sheinbaum said, “The recognition of the Palestinian state is essential for achieving peace in the region.”

She condemned the Zionist aggression against Gaza and Lebanon, emphasising that ” the war will never lead to a good outcome.”

In recent months, Norway, Spain, and Ireland officially recognised the State of Palestine, followed by Slovenia and Armenia, increasing the total number of recognising countries to 149 out of the 193 member states of the United Nations General Assembly.
