Mexican Senate Reaffirms Support for Sahrawis’ Right to Self-Determination

The Mexican Senate reaffirmed his country’s support to the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination, praising the longstanding ties linking Mexico with the Sahrawi Republic since 1979.
While receiving the Sahrawi ambassador to Mexico, Mohamed Salem Abdesamed, the members of the Mexican Senate renewed their unwavering support of the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination, affirming the depth of the relation between the two countries, Sahrawi media reported on Wednesday.
Mexican Parliamentarians underscored that their country’s foreign policy is based on “respect for international law, non-intervention in countries’ affairs, as stipulated by the Mexican Constitution,” emphasizing that these principles represent the “foundation of the country’s foreign policy.” For his part, the Sahrawi ambassador expressed his country’s deep gratitude for Mexico’s position, noting that the Mexican Parliamentarian support is “a key pillar” in defending the Sahrawi people’s rights, including their inalienable right to self-determination.
He highlighted the humanitarian dimension of the conflict, notably the situation of the Sahrawi refugees, urging for continued Mexican support at both political and humanitarian levels.
