Mediterranean Games 2022: “State has provided all conditions to make event successful”

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Abderezak Sebgag said Thursday in Algiers that the state had provided all conditions conducive to the success of the 19th edition of the Mediterranean Games (June 25-July 5 2022) in Oran, stressing that “the ball is in the court of federations.”

“The state has provided all the conditions for the success of the Mediterranean appointment and the ball is now in the camp of federations,” said the minister who chaired a study day on the evaluation of preparations for the Mediterranean Games at Mohamed Boudiaf Olympic Complex in Algiers.

“We have taken the necessary measures so as that our athletes travel in a country that excels in a particular sport, and get in touch with high-level athletes, like some boxers who moved to Cuba for training,” said Sebgag.

“We are always in contact with sports federations to listen to their concerns, hence this meeting which aims to review the results achieved and the shortcomings to address,” he said.

The minister also stressed the need to correct the mistakes made in the preparation of athletes for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics (postponed to 2021) to avoid bad results.

The closure of sports facilities due to the pandemic has seriously impacted the performance of Algerian athletes in Tokyo, he said.

We have created the preparation and monitoring committee and held meetings with the presidents of federations, coaches and athletes qualified for this event to exchange views and avoid the same mistakes.
