Mauritania’s Defense Minister Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Strategic Partnership with Algeria

ALGIERS, April 16, 2025 – On Wednesday in Algiers, Hanana Ould Sidi, the Minister of Defense, Retired Persons and Martyrs’ Children Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, reiterated his country’s intention to enhance cooperative relations with Algeria, aiming to fortify their bilateral strategic partnership.

In a statement following his meeting with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his accompanying delegation, the Mauritanian minister expressed that he communicated to the president the “sense of pride” felt by his counterpart, Mauritania’s President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, regarding the strong and enduring bonds between their two nations. He also conveyed a “desire to strengthen cooperative relations in service of their strategic partnership.”

Furthermore, he mentioned that he extended wishes for health and well-being from President El Ghazouani to President Tebboune, along with hopes for ongoing progress and prosperity for the Algerian people.

The Mauritanian Defense Minister noted that he had been tasked by the President of the Republic to convey “his greetings” to El Ghazouani and to reaffirm “his commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership between the two brotherly countries.”

The meeting was attended by several dignitaries, including the Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defense, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, Army General Saïd Chanegriha; the Director of the Cabinet at the Presidency, Boualem Boualem; and the President’s advisor on security and defense matters, Boumediene Benattou.
