Mauritanian President Receives UN Envoy for Western Sahara in Nouakchott

Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani met with the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, on Wednesday, as reported by the Mauritanian News Agency. The meeting is part of de Mistura’s regional tour to gather insights for his upcoming report to the UN Security Council ahead of this month’s discussions on Western Sahara.
The discussions took place in the presence of key Mauritanian officials, including the Minister in charge of the Presidential Office, Mr. Nani Ould Achrougha, along with presidential advisors Sidi Mohamed Ould Gaber and Mahfoud Ould Ibrahim. The meeting underscores Mauritania’s role in the diplomatic efforts surrounding the Western Sahara conflict, as the UN seeks to facilitate negotiations between the involved parties.
De Mistura’s visit to Mauritania follows meetings with other regional stakeholders, aimed at assessing the current situation and preparing recommendations for the UN Security Council. .
