Mauritanian PM: “President Tebboune Asked Me to Convey to The Mauritanian People Algeria’s Continued Support”
ALGIERS, April 7, 2026 – The Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Mokhtar Ould Diay, stated Tuesday in Algiers that the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, had tasked him with conveying to the brotherly Mauritanian people Algeria’s continued support for Mauritania, in the service of the common interests of both countries.
In a statement to the press following the audience granted to him and the accompanying delegation by the President of the Republic, Ould Diay said he had delivered to President Tebboune a letter from his counterpart, the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, conveying “his sincere fraternal greetings and his determination to continue working together to strengthen, develop, and enrich relations between the two countries.”
He added that the meeting allowed him to inform the Algerian President of the “positive assessment” of the work of the 20th session of the Algeria–Mauritania Joint Cooperation Commission, noting that he received from President Tebboune “encouragement and guidance to move forward in implementing all that has been agreed upon and to mobilize all efforts to develop strategic relations.”
He further indicated that the President of the Republic had asked him to “convey a message of peace and esteem, along with his greetings, to his brother, the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania,” and to “inform the Mauritanian people and State of Algeria’s continued support for Mauritania, in the service of the common interests of both countries.”
The meeting was attended by the Director of the Presidency’s Cabinet, Boualem Boualem, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, the Presidential Advisor for diplomatic affairs, Amar Abba, and Algeria’s Ambassador to Mauritania, Amine Sid.
