Manchester City Set to Face Real Madrid in UCL Playoffs

NYON (Switzerland), January 31, 2025 – In a highly anticipated matchup, Manchester City will take on Real Madrid in the Champions League playoffs, as both teams compete for a coveted spot in the Round of 16, following the draw held on Friday in Nyon, Switzerland.

Currently ranked 22nd in the league phase, Man City, who secured the Champions League title in 2023, will host the first leg at home in Manchester on February 11 or 12, with the return match set for February 18 or 19 in Madrid.

This encounter marks the fifth direct clash between City and Real in the Champions League over the past five seasons. Each team has claimed victory twice: Real won in last year’s quarter-finals (3-3 aggregate, 4-3 on penalties) and the semi-finals in 2022 (3-4 aggregate after extra time), while City triumphed in the quarter-finals in 2023 (1-1 aggregate, 4-0) and in the Round of 16 in 2020 (2-1 aggregate).

The winner of this playoff will face either Bayer Leverkusen or Atlético Madrid in the Round of 16.

First legs are scheduled for February 11-12, with return legs on February 18-19.
