Mali: 20 Lives Lost in a Week Due to Flooding

Between August 28 and September 2, heavy rainfall across several regions of Mali claimed the lives of twenty individuals, as reported by the Malian Ministry of Security and Civil Protection.

“During this period, local authorities reported approximately 4,778 displaced persons,” the source noted, urging residents to evacuate areas close to riverbanks due to the imminent threat of flooding.

On August 23, Malian authorities declared a “national disaster” and issued an appeal for international assistance to address the extensive material damages observed in Bamako and other affected regions, which are estimated to amount to three billion CFA francs (approximately 5 million dollars).
