Maduro Confirms Secret Trump Call, Describes Exchange as “Respectful” and “Cordial”

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has revealed that he held a discreet phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump ten days ago, describing the exchange as both “respectful” and “cordial.” Maduro’s disclosure marks a rare moment of direct communication between Caracas and Washington, coming at a time of shifting geopolitical dynamics and renewed discussions over regional stability.

Maduro stressed the importance of discretion in diplomacy, saying, “When there are important things, they have to be kept quiet until they happen.” His remarks suggest that both sides sought to avoid premature exposure of the dialogue, preserving a space for potential progress away from public pressure and political noise.

The Venezuelan leader also cast the United States as a nation increasingly “tired of endless wars,” positioning Venezuela as a potential partner for peace and stability in the region. By framing the call in this way, Maduro appeared to signal openness to a recalibration of relations—though whether the conversation leads to substantive steps remains to be seen.
