Madagascar: Landslide Claims 16 Lives Among Passengers on a Boat

Sixteen passengers aboard a boat tragically lost their lives on Wednesday in the Menabe region of western Madagascar after a landslide occurred near their vessel’s route, local media reported on Thursday.
According to reports, “The boat, which was carrying 26 passengers, was anchored on the Tsiribihina River when a landslide struck nearby, instantly killing 16 individuals.”
In a statement, the Port, Maritime and River Agency (APMF) confirmed the incident and assured that “the remaining 10 passengers were rescued.” The agency also expressed its sorrow over “the damage and destruction suffered by the port infrastructure.”
The vessel was operating a river connection between the towns of Belo sur Tsiribihina and Ankalalaobe in Menabe.
