Madagascar and the World Food Programme (WFP) have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing food security, strengthening resilience among vulnerable groups, and transforming food systems in the country, according to local media reports on Tuesday.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, Madagascar’s Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Hemy Hajarison François Sergio, highlighted the significance of the agreement. “This agreement reflects the excellent cooperation between the Republic of Madagascar and the World Food Programme. It is part of an ambitious approach that demonstrates our shared determination to tackle strategic challenges related to food security, sustainable development, and resilience to climate and economic shocks,” he said.
Mamadou Mbaye, Acting Director and WFP Representative in Madagascar, emphasized the importance of innovative and inclusive solutions. “Through tailored and comprehensive approaches, we collaborate with our partners to build resilient food systems and uphold human dignity,” he stated.
The partnership, formalized under a Memorandum of Understanding, will come into effect in December 2024 and will span four years. It aligns with national priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on long-term strategies to ensure food security and sustainability.
