Libya: Elections Are Only Solution to the Situation in the Country (Head of GNU)

Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba, the head of Libya’s Government of National Unity, emphasized that elections “are the only solution” to the ongoing challenges facing his country.

This statement was made during a meeting with Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso, who chairs the African Union’s High-Level Committee on Libya.

In their discussions, Al-Dabaiba and President Sassou Nguesso addressed the issue of national reconciliation in Libya, which is being facilitated by the African Union, and explored strategies to advance this process. They also examined ways to enhance and develop bilateral relations between Libya and Congo across various sectors.

Libya was originally set to hold presidential and legislative elections in December 2021; however, these elections have been postponed indefinitely.
