Leicester City Set to Appoint Ruud van Nistelrooy as New Manager

Leicester City is reportedly on the verge of appointing Dutch football legend Ruud van Nistelrooy as their new head coach, according to multiple British media outlets. The move comes after the club parted ways with manager Steve Cooper on Sunday, following a string of disappointing results that left Leicester in 16th place in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone.
Van Nistelrooy, who left his post as Manchester United’s interim manager two weeks ago after a short tenure, is set to take over at Leicester. His stint at United followed the departure of compatriot Erik ten Hag, where he initially served as an assistant manager before stepping up temporarily. Under his brief leadership, Manchester United secured two wins from three matches, including victories over Leicester in both the League Cup and the Premier League last month.
The 48-year-old former striker, known for his prolific goal-scoring career at clubs such as PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United, and Real Madrid, brings valuable experience to Leicester. He previously managed PSV Eindhoven during the 2022-2023 season, and his leadership skills will be crucial as he takes on the challenge of guiding Leicester back to form.
Sky Sports reported that van Nistelrooy’s appointment could be confirmed in the coming days, with the Dutchman potentially in charge for Leicester’s upcoming match against Brentford on Saturday.
As a player, van Nistelrooy was renowned for his clinical finishing and ability to score goals at the highest level. Now, as a manager, he will aim to revive Leicester’s fortunes in the highly competitive Premier League, as the club looks to avoid a relegation battle and return to their former glory.
