Lebanon : President Aoun Highlights Multisectoral Coordination with Syria

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun affirmed that his country is seeking to improve relations with Syria, stressing the existence of security and military coordination between the two sides, the Syrian news agency SANA reported on Monday.
“We are working to boost our relationship with Syria in terms of security and military coordination . Border demarcation is essential in this context, and we are awaiting a Syrian envoy to elevate the relationship to a higher level.”Aoun said in an interview with the media, excerpts of which were published by SANA.
Aoun said that economic cooperation between Beirut and Damascus falls within the framework of positions on the paper presented by U.S. envoy for Syria, Thomas Barrack, which became a Lebanese paper after incorporating Lebanese amendments. He stressed that this paper will only become effective with the approval of the concerned parties.
For his part, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam stated that his country aspires to establish a “fraternal and healthy” relationship with Syria under the new leadership of interim president Ahmad Al-Chaara. In an interview with Asharq Al-Awsat, partially cited by SANA, Salam said he had informed President Al-Chaara during his visit to Damascus last April that the Lebanese are ready to “open a new page in Syrian-Lebanese relations based on mutual respect,” stressing the need for joint cooperation to resolve the outstanding issues between the two countries.
