Lebanon, “Israel” to hold first meeting at US State Department Tuesday amid ongoing aggression

Lebanon’s presidency said that Lebanon and “Israel” held their first contact via a telephone call between their ambassadors in Washington on Friday, with the participation of the U.S. ambassador to Lebanon.

The statement said the call was part of diplomatic efforts aimed at securing a ceasefire and launching negotiations, adding that the two sides agreed to hold a first meeting on Tuesday at the U.S. State Department under U.S. mediation.

On Saturday, however, Zionist warplanes launched a series of airstrikes on Lebanon, killing three people, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported.

A residential building in the town of Mefdoun in the southern governorate of Nabatieh was targeted and destroyed during the attacks.

The Zionist forces also destroyed several residential buildings on Martyr Sabra Street and in the Maqam neighborhood.

The town of Jebchit also came under an airstrike that targeted a private electricity generator complex, destroying and setting it on fire.

This comes after the Zionist forces pounded Beirut with airstrikes on Wednesday, killing more than 300 people, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry. It was the deadliest day in the country since the war began Feb. 28.
