Lebanese Cabinet Meets to Discuss State Control Over Weapons

An anticipated Lebanese cabinet meeting began on Tuesday to finalize discussions on the state control over weapons.
According to the Lebanese news agency NNA, the cabinet session is headed by President Joseph Aoun, with the participation of Prime Minister Nawaf Salam at the Baabda Palace east of Beirut.
The meeting focuses on the extension of Lebanese sovereignty all over its territories and bringing weapons under state control.
The Lebanese president and the premier had a private meeting before the cabinet session, the agency added.
In a statement, Hezbollah lawmaker Ali Fayyad called for a unified stance within Lebanon to force the Zionist entity to withdraw from Lebanese territories, cease its hostilities, and release prisoners.
Hezbollah has repeatedly rejected calls for laying down its weapons before the Zionist forces’ withdrawal from the Lebanese territories.
In June, US envoy Thomas Barrack proposed a roadmap to Lebanese officials to fully disarm Hezbollah, in exchange for the Zionist forces halting their strikes on Lebanon and withdrawing their troops from five points they still occupy in the south.
