Lavrov Warns Military Scenario Around Iran Would Undermine Regional and Global Security

A military resolution to the situation surrounding Iran would not ensure the security of any state and would only deepen existing problems, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at the XV Middle East Conference of the Valdai international discussion club. He stressed that Moscow’s position is based on the need for a peaceful settlement, warning that the use of force would fail to deliver lasting stability.

Lavrov noted that, as in the case of Palestine, some direct participants in the process are tempted to resort to force in an attempt to decisively defeat their opponents. He described such aspirations as unacceptable, emphasizing that they would merely accumulate further problems rather than resolve them or enhance the security of any country. According to the minister, only diplomatic and political solutions can prevent further escalation.

He added that Russia maintains constant contact with its Iranian partners, including coordination with China, underscoring Moscow’s concern about Iran’s future and broader regional stability. Lavrov’s remarks come amid heightened rhetoric from Washington, after US President Donald Trump said on January 26 that a “massive armada” was heading toward Iran, recalling US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities last June and warning that any future attack would be “far worse” if Tehran does not return to negotiations and renounce nuclear weapons.
