Lavrov: Ukraine Undermining Trump’s Peace Efforts Despite Progress at Alaska Summit

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, speaking alongside his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Moscow, outlined Moscow’s position on the Ukraine conflict and upcoming diplomatic efforts. He said President Vladimir Putin is ready to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but only if discussions are well-prepared by experts and ministers beforehand.

Lavrov cautioned that any potential agreements with Ukraine may face legitimacy concerns regarding those authorized to sign them. He accused Kiev of working to derail US President Donald Trump’s peace initiatives, arguing that Ukrainian politicians are demonstrating a clear unwillingness to end the conflict.

Highlighting recent diplomatic progress, Lavrov pointed to the Russia-US summit in Alaska, which he said made substantial headway in defining the framework for a settlement. However, he warned that a so-called “coalition of the willing” is attempting to undermine the outcomes of that meeting, slowing down prospects for peace.
