Lavrov Says EU’s Kaja Kallas Admits to “Foreign Interference” Practices

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has effectively admitted to engaging in “foreign interference” after pledging €17.6 million to help Armenia counter what Brussels describes as external meddling, similar to measures previously taken regarding Moldova. Lavrov described the statement as a candid confession that sheds light on the EU’s political methods in neighboring countries.

According to Lavrov, the European Union applies clear double standards when it comes to democratic processes, refusing to recognize election results unless a pro-Western candidate emerges victorious. When outcomes favor figures supported by Europe, he said, the EU is quick to praise the process as democratic and legitimate.

Lavrov further argued that one of Europe’s key institutions in this sphere, the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), has long ceased to be an impartial observer. Instead, he claimed, it has become an instrument of political pressure used to advance Western interests under the guise of promoting democracy.
