Lavrov : ‘Israel’’s Strikes on Doha Further Undermine Stability in the Middle East

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov strongly condemned recent Zionist strikes on Doha, warning that they risk plunging the Middle East into deeper instability. Speaking at the plenary session of the Russia-Gulf Arab Cooperation Council (GCC) Strategic Dialogue, Lavrov said the attacks represented a grave violation of international law and the sovereignty of Qatar. “Our meeting today is taking place amid a sharp increase in military and political tensions in the Middle East as a result of the Zionist missile and bombing attacks on Doha, the capital of Qatar, on September 9,” Lavrov stated. He added that Moscow viewed the strikes as “an encroachment on the territorial integrity of an independent state” and stressed that such actions “deserve the strongest condemnation.”
According to Qatar’s Interior Ministry, the strikes killed a member of the emirate’s security forces and injured several others, though the overall situation in Doha was later described as calm. The Zionist entity confirmed responsibility, stating that its military, with the support of the General Security Service and Air Force, had targeted Hamas representatives in the capital. The strike occurred amid heightened regional tensions and came at a time when international discussions over Gaza were ongoing.
Hamas denied earlier reports suggesting its negotiating delegation had been wiped out, but acknowledged that six people were killed in the attack. Among the dead were the son of senior Gaza leader Khalil al-Hayya and a Qatari security officer. Al Jazeera reported that the attack struck during a meeting of Hamas political bureau members, who were reviewing a US proposal aimed at resolving the conflict in Gaza. Lavrov stressed that the ongoing escalation threatens to further destabilize the region and called on the international community to uphold international law and resist double standards in addressing the crisis.
