LaLiga: Bellingham Suspended for Two Matches

MADRID, February 19, 2025 – England international midfielder Jude Bellingham of Real Madrid has received a two-match suspension following his dismissal for “disrespectful behavior” towards the referee during last Saturday’s LaLiga match against Osasuna, which ended in a 1-1 draw. The Spanish Football Federation made this announcement on Wednesday.

The RFEF disciplinary committee released a statement detailing the suspensions of several players who received warnings or red cards over the weekend, including Bellingham, who will miss the next two matches against Girona and Real Betis due to his “disrespectful attitude” towards referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero.

This penalty is noticeably less severe than what Bellingham initially faced; however, Real Madrid has described it as “unfair” and confirmed their intention to appeal the decision.

Bellingham, who denies having insulted the referee, contends that there was a “communication error” and claims that the official report does not accurately reflect his words.

According to reports from Spanish media, the referee involved, who has been accused by several outlets of a conflict of interest, is now under internal investigation by the Federation and will not officiate in La Liga until the inquiry is completed.
