Kremlin Says Sport Should Not Become Victim of Politics

The Kremlin said Russia believes sport should not become a victim of political disputes, stressing that athletes must be allowed to compete freely in international competitions.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said all athletes should have the right to participate under their national flags. His comments came in response to statements by officials in Ukraine about a possible boycott of the Paralympic Games over the use of the flags and anthems of Russia and Belarus.

Peskov emphasized that international sporting events should remain separate from political tensions, underscoring Moscow’s position that competition in global sports should be based on athletic performance rather than geopolitical considerations.
