Kremlin: Russian Troops Advancing to Create Security Buffer as Diplomacy Stalls in Ukraine

MOSCOW — The Kremlin announced on Tuesday that Russian forces are continuing to move forward in Ukraine to establish a buffer zone aimed at ensuring national security. In a series of statements, the Russian presidency emphasized that the complexity of the conflict currently prevents an immediate diplomatic resolution.
Despite the ongoing military developments, Moscow expressed hope that a third round of direct negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian delegations would take place soon, noting that continued dialogue is in Ukraine’s interest. “The situation on the ground is shifting daily—and not in favor of Kiev,” the Kremlin stated.
Russia also reiterated its rejection of the European Court of Human Rights’ jurisdiction over complaints lodged by Ukraine and the Netherlands regarding Moscow’s actions, declaring those rulings “null and void.”
Commenting on recent reports that U.S. President Donald Trump had threatened to bomb Moscow and Beijing, the Kremlin said it is unaware whether such claims are real or fabricated, noting that these alleged statements refer to a time before Trump assumed office.
While Russia maintains that there are no fundamental disagreements between Moscow and Washington, the Kremlin stressed the importance of resolving the Ukraine crisis through political and diplomatic channels, despite current impediments to meaningful progress.
