Kremlin: Mutual Interest in Early Putin–Trump Meeting

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov commented on several major geopolitical issues on Monday, stressing that both Russia and the United States share an interest in expediting a potential meeting between President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump. Peskov noted that while both sides support the idea of a summit, it must be “substantive” and undergo thorough preparation before taking place.
Addressing recent remarks by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, Peskov described his warnings about the possibility of a NATO–Russia conflict as “militaristic and pro-war rhetoric,” arguing that such statements are increasingly coming from European capitals. He said this tone is contributing to rising tensions and does not help maintain stability in the region.
Peskov also discussed ongoing contacts between Russia and Ukraine, saying that expert-level discussions on prisoner exchanges continue despite broader political and military tensions. According to the Kremlin, these humanitarian channels remain active even as the conflict persists on the ground.
