Kremlin: Macron’s Speech Was Confrontational and Reveals France’s Intentions to Prolong the War

The Kremlin has denounced French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent address as confrontational, accusing him of creating the impression that France is actively seeking to prolong the conflict in Ukraine. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Macron’s statements contained multiple inaccuracies, particularly regarding efforts to settle the crisis. He noted that the speech reflected France’s aggressive stance rather than a genuine commitment to peace.
Peskov also exposed what he called false claims by Macron regarding the Minsk peace accords, stating that “One cannot forget that Paris had no intention of implementing them.” He reiterated that Russia has long maintained that the Ukraine conflict is a proxy war, aligning with statements from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Additionally, Peskov dismissed any ambiguity about Russia’s stance on the potential deployment of French forces in Ukraine, stressing that Moscow’s reaction to such a move would be clear to all.
The Kremlin spokesman further criticized Macron’s speech for being filled with nuclear rhetoric and claims of nuclear leadership. He warned that such remarks contribute to escalating tensions rather than fostering diplomatic solutions. Moscow remains firm in its position that Western nations, rather than working toward peace, continue to fuel the conflict with increased military support for Kyiv.
