Kremlin Dismisses Trump’s Claim on Modi, Says It Trusts Official Statements from India and China

Moscow is guided solely by the official statements of New Delhi and Beijing regarding the purchase of Russian oil, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday, responding to remarks by US President Donald Trump.
Trump had claimed that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured him that India would no longer buy Russian oil. Peskov rejected the assertion, stressing that Russia relies on verified information rather than political rhetoric.
“We rely on the official statements issued by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, as well as a statement from Beijing. These statements are publicly available, and we are guided by them,” Peskov told reporters.
Earlier this week, Indian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Randhir Jaiswal reaffirmed that New Delhi’s energy policy is driven by national interest and consumer needs. Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian criticized President Trump’s approach, accusing him of undermining global supply chains by pressuring nations to abandon Russian energy imports.
Both India and China remain among Russia’s key energy partners, despite persistent Western attempts to isolate Moscow’s oil exports through sanctions and diplomatic pressure.
