Kremlin Denies Contact Between Russian Representatives and Trump Campaign

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed on Thursday that there were no contacts between Russian representatives and Donald Trump’s campaign office. When asked whether Russian officials had been in touch with Trump’s team, Peskov responded, “No, why should they have been in touch?” He also commented on the possibility of Russian representatives attending Trump’s inauguration, noting that it remains unclear who will be invited.

Peskov mentioned that Russian President Vladimir Putin may address the US election during his upcoming speech at the Valdai Discussion Club, acknowledging that the topic could arise due to its relevance. The speech will have an ideological focus, according to the Kremlin spokesperson.

Regarding future communication between Putin and Trump, Peskov stated that while no official talks are planned, it is possible the two leaders may communicate before Trump’s inauguration, as Trump had previously expressed intent to call Putin. Peskov emphasized that any future meetings between the two presidents would require thorough preparation at the expert level, adding that there are no plans for Putin to meet with outgoing President Joe Biden.
