Kim Jong Un Pledges Unconditional Support for Russia on Ukraine and Global Affairs

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has reaffirmed Pyongyang’s unwavering support for Moscow’s positions on major international issues, including the Ukraine conflict, during a meeting with Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu on June 4, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

Kim assured Shoigu that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) would “unconditionally support the stand of Russia and its foreign policies in all the crucial international political issues including the Ukrainian issue,” and emphasized North Korea’s commitment to honoring the provisions of its treaty with Russia.

The North Korean leader also expressed confidence that Russia would “surely win victory in the sacred cause of justice for defending national sovereignty, territorial integrity and security interests.”

The discussions, held in what KCNA described as a “friendly atmosphere of trust,” addressed the situation in Ukraine and broader international developments. Shoigu, for his part, extended Moscow’s gratitude for North Korea’s historic role in defending Russian territory during World War II, lauding the “heroism” of Korean fighters who fought alongside Soviet forces.
