North Korea’s military conducted a large-scale combined tactical drill involving special operations units and tank subunits to boost combat effectiveness, state media reported Wednesday. The exercises took place Tuesday and featured a joint fire strike demonstration, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
The event was attended by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Defense Minister No Kwang Chol, and other top military officials. KCNA reported that the drills—designed to meet the “all-purpose battalion” standard—drew special attention for their complexity and coordination between various military units.
In a speech during the drills, Kim praised the performance of the troops and emphasized that improving combat readiness is vital to counter imperialist threats. He stated that the most important task for North Korea’s armed forces is to maintain full wartime preparedness, declaring it the foremost revolutionary duty. Kim added that transforming the entire army into elite forces capable of executing any order without hesitation remains a central strategic objective.
