Kenya: Injuries Reported in Fire at Girls’ High School

Firefighters are currently battling a blaze at Isiolo Girls High School in central Kenya, according to local officials. This incident comes just two days after a fire at another school tragically claimed the lives of 21 boys.

“Approximately two or three buildings are ablaze,” stated Hussein Salesale, the communication officer for Isiolo County, as reported by various media outlets.

“There are injuries, but we cannot confirm an exact number at this time,” he added.

On Thursday, a fire erupted around midnight at a primary school in the central region, resulting in the tragic loss of 21 lives.

Vice President Rigathi Gachagua has indicated that 70 children remain unaccounted for; however, this does not necessarily mean they are deceased or injured.

In response to these events, Kenyan President William Ruto has declared a three-day period of national mourning beginning Monday, describing the incidents as an “unimaginable tragedy.”
