Karol Nawrocki Sworn In as Poland’s President, Signaling Nationalist Shift

WARSAW – Poland’s new conservative president, Karol Nawrocki, was officially sworn in on Wednesday, following his narrow victory in the June 1 presidential runoff. The inauguration ceremony took place in front of the Polish parliament, marking the end of Andrzej Duda’s decade-long presidency.
Nawrocki, a 42-year-old historian with strong conservative credentials, secured 50.9% of the vote against Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski. His rise to the presidency reflects a growing nationalist sentiment within Poland, as well as across parts of Europe.
Known for his Eurosceptic stance and close alignment with the Trump administration, Nawrocki has pledged to prioritize Polish citizens over Ukrainian refugees in social and economic policies. Analysts say his presidency could lead to heightened tensions with the European Union, particularly over issues of sovereignty, migration, and judicial independence.
