July 2025 Ranks as Third-Warmest Globally, Copernicus Data Shows

READING – July 2025 was the third-warmest July on record globally, according to data released Thursday by the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service.

The month recorded global temperatures that were 1.25°C (2.25°F) above pre-industrial levels, highlighting the continued trend of rising global heat. In Europe, the average land temperature for July reached 21.12°C (70.02°F), which is 1.30°C (2.34°F) higher than the 1991–2020 average—making it the fourth-warmest July on record for the continent.

Copernicus also reported that Arctic sea ice extent was 10% below the long-term average for July. This ties with the years 2012 and 2021 as the second-lowest Arctic sea ice extent recorded in July over the past 47 years of satellite observations.
