Jordan: Voters to choose their representatives in Parliament tomorrow

Amman – Jordanian voters will head to the polls on Tuesday to elect the 20th Parliament under a new electoral law being implemented for the first time.
The upcoming parliamentary elections follow a royal decree by King Abdullah II to elect a new House of Representatives, as the current parliament’s term ended after four years since its election in 2020.
A total of 1,634 candidates are running for both local and general (party) constituencies under the supervision of the Independent Election Commission. This includes 172 lists for local constituencies and 25 lists for the general party constituency.
According to the Jordanian Constitution, parliamentary elections must be held within the four months preceding the end of the parliament’s term. The elections will be conducted under a new law enacted in January 2022, which increased the number of parliamentary seats from 130 to 138, with 41 seats allocated for party competition for the first time among the 138 seats of the 20th Parliament.
