Jennifer Lawrence Slams Gaza ‘Genocide’ at San Sebastian Film Festival

US actor Jennifer Lawrence on Friday described the Zionist war in Gaza as a “genocide” and voiced alarm over the erosion of truth and empathy in American politics, during a press appearance at the San Sebastian Film Festival.

The Oscar winner was responding to a question about the nearly two-year conflict in the Palestinian territory. “What’s happening is no less than a genocide, and it’s unacceptable,” she said.

Turning to the political climate in her own country, the 35-year-old added: “I’m terrified for my children, for all of our children. This disrespect and the discourse in American politics right now is going to be normal.”

She warned that for younger generations, “it’s going to be totally normal to them that politics has no integrity.”

“Politicians lie, there’s no empathy, and everybody needs to remember that when you ignore what’s happening on one side of the world, it won’t be long until it’s on your side as well,” she continued.

Lawrence, known for Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle and Joy, was in San Sebastian to collect the festival’s Donostia lifetime achievement award, where her new film Die, My Love was also screened.
