Japan Warns of Possible Stronger Quake After 180 Tremors Near Tokara Islands

TOKYO – Japan on Monday urged residents to remain vigilant for the possibility of a stronger earthquake after more than 180 tremors were recorded near the southwestern Tokara island chain over the weekend, Kyodo News reported.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, three quakes measuring 4 on Japan’s seismic intensity scale of 7 were recorded—twice on Sunday and once early Monday—on Akuseki Island, part of the Kagoshima Prefecture.

Seismic activity has been frequent in the area since Saturday, prompting authorities to monitor the situation closely and advise caution
