Italy: Two Fatalities in Ultralight Aircraft Crash Near Genoa

Two individuals tragically lost their lives in the crash of an ultralight aircraft on Wednesday in Isola del Cantone, a municipality located in the Genoa hinterlands of Italy’s Liguria region, according to civil protection authorities.

The aircraft was flying at a low altitude when it vanished into thick fog before crashing onto a hillside in the Alta Scrivia valley. Firefighters reported that they found the lifeless bodies of both occupants from the two-seater at the crash site.

Witnesses reported hearing a loud explosion followed by the plane catching fire, as detailed by local media, which also showcased images of the wreckage and a scorched area of land.

Rescue operations faced significant challenges due to difficult access to the wooded area and limited visibility caused by the dense fog. After extensive searching, firefighters initially discovered a section of burnt wreckage before ultimately locating and identifying the bodies of the two individuals on board.
