Italy Signals It Won’t Join NATO Program to Buy US Weapons for Ukraine — Bloomberg

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has indicated that Italy is not willing to participate in a NATO initiative to purchase US weapons for Ukraine, citing the ongoing peace negotiations, Bloomberg reported.

According to the outlet, Tajani’s remarks are “the clearest sign yet” that Rome has shifted its strategy on Ukraine after exhausting available funds and navigating internal tensions within the governing coalition.

Bloomberg notes that Italy has become the first European country to openly suggest that Ukraine should not receive further weapons while ceasefire talks are underway — a position that may signal broader division within Europe over continued military support.
