Italy: Conclusion of the G7 Interior Ministers’ Meeting

The G7 Interior Ministers’ meeting, which included Algeria’s Minister of Interior, Local Communities, and Regional Planning, Brahim Merad, concluded on Friday in Mirabella Eclano, Italy.

During a session dedicated to “irregular migration and human trafficking,” Merad underscored Algeria’s initiatives, spearheaded by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at fostering development in African countries, particularly in border regions. These efforts include structural projects and cooperative actions founded on solidarity within the region.

He also reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to addressing irregular migration through “a comprehensive approach that aligns with our shared aspirations in tackling these challenges.”

On the sidelines of the meeting, Merad held bilateral discussions with his counterparts from Libya and Italy, where they explored various issues of mutual interest.

Italy currently holds the rotating presidency of the G7, which comprises the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Japan, Germany, and Canada.
