Italy: Arrest of 12 Members of a Neo-Nazi Cell Planning “Violent Actions”

Italian police announced on Wednesday the arrest of 12 individuals associated with a neo-Nazi cell that was preparing “violent actions targeting high-ranking officials in institutions,” according to an official statement.

This group was already “in an operational phase” and had the capability to carry out attacks using tactics typically employed by ‘lone wolves,’ the source added.

The investigation leading to these arrests involves a total of 25 individuals. Raids were conducted across the country, from Palermo in Sicily to Milan in the north.

These 25 individuals, aged between 19 and 76, are accused of having “organized and participated in the ‘Werwolf Division’ association, which promoted supremacist and neo-Nazi ideals… and aimed at overthrowing” the current democratic system, as specified by Italian police.

Their plan sought to establish an “authoritarian state based on Aryan supremacy” and involved preparations for “violent actions against high-ranking officials in institutions.”

In their statement, the police noted that the name of the association, “Werwolf Division,” refers to the sabotage and guerrilla tactics used by Nazi troops against Allied forces during World War II.
