Italy Appoints Special Envoy for Gaza, Steps Up Humanitarian Aid

The Italian government has appointed diplomat Bruno Archi as special envoy for the Gaza Strip and announced plans to boost humanitarian aid deliveries to the enclave devastated by two years of Zionist aggression, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said, as reported by local media.

Speaking on the sidelines of a conference organized by his center-right party Forza Italia (FI), Tajani stated that “Bruno Archi, currently Italy’s ambassador to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), chaired an operational meeting at the Foreign Ministry earlier today.”

“This morning, there was an operational meeting at the Foreign Ministry chaired by Ambassador Archi, whom I intend to appoint as the Ministry’s special envoy for Gaza,” Tajani told reporters, according to the ANSA news agency.

The minister added that Italy was assessing what additional aid could be sent to the Palestinian population in Gaza and had already gathered hundreds of tons of food supplies ready for shipment.

“We’re accelerating the delivery of food supplies. Some shipments have already started arriving, but it’s not easy — it’s a day-by-day effort,” he said.

Tajani confirmed that Rome’s top priority is to increase humanitarian aid to Gaza following the implementation of last Friday’s ceasefire, while ensuring coordination with international organizations and regional partners, amid the withdrawal of the Zionist forces from the enclave.
