Italy: 4.4 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Near Naples

A magnitude 4.4 earthquake shook the Phlegraean Fields area near Naples, Italy, on Tuesday. Fortunately, local authorities reported no injuries or damage.
The tremor hit at 12:07 PM (10:07 AM GMT) at a depth of 3 kilometers, according to the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV). Its epicenter was located in the Gulf of Pozzuoli, a coastal town within the metropolitan area of Naples.
This earthquake was preceded and followed by smaller quakes, including a 3.5 magnitude tremor that came along just fifteen minutes after the initial shock.
“We are keeping an eye on the situation, but it’s important to avoid any alarmism: the data doesn’t point to any alarming developments,” reassured Mauro Di Vito, an official from the institute.
