Italian GNV Launches Sea Transport Service Algiers-Sète

ALGIERS – Italian company Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV) launched Wednesday its maritime passenger transport service between Algiers and the port of Sète, France, to boost sea transport between the two cities.

The Italian company’s first crossing as part of the new service was carried out Wednesday, as its ferry “Excellent” docked at the port of Algiers at about 15:00, carrying 949 passengers, 653 vehicles and six motorcycles, coming from the French port of Sète.

The passengers, most of whom have come to Algeria for Eid al-Adha holidays, welcomed the initiative as the new service gives them greater flexibility when travelling between the two countries.

The official ceremony for the opening of the new service took place in Algiers, aboard the ferry, just after it arrived in the port of Algiers.

It was attended by the adviser to the president of the Republic for NGOs and Human Rights, Hamid Lounaouci, the secretary general of the ministry of Transport, Djamel Eddine Abdelghani Dridi, the chairman of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council, Kamel Moula, Italy’s ambassador to Algeria, Alberto Cutillo, and officials from the maritime transport sector.

The secretary general of the ministry of Transport welcomed the opening of the new service by the Italian company GNV, in partnership with Algerian AFLT Maritime, to enhance the services provided to the Algerian community in Europe.
