Istanbul Declaration Backs Algeria’s UN Security Council Efforts

ISTANBUL – The Council of Foreign Ministers of member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), meeting Sunday in Istanbul, Türkiye, for its 51st session, expressed its support for Algeria’s tangible and appreciable efforts as part of its mandate as non-permanent member of the United Nations (UN) Security Council.

The Istanbul Declaration, resulting from this two-day session, focused on support for the tangible and appreciable efforts of OIC member states, namely Algeria, Pakistan and Somalia, as part of their non-permanent mandate at the Security Council, in favor of Islamic causes.

The participants reaffirmed the centrality of the Palestinian cause and their unwavering backing for the establishment of a sovereign, independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with al-Quds al-Sharif as its capital, noting that the two-state solution remains “the only viable option to achieve peace and stability in the region, for the benefit of all.”

They also condemned the genocidal war conducted by the Zionist entity in the Gaza Strip for more than 19 months, as well as the campaigns of destruction and systematic killings in the West Bank, including in al-Quds al-Sharif, which aim to eliminate the Palestinian cause, including the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.

They underscored the urgent need for a permanent ceasefire and full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2735 to halt the aggression and advance the Arab-Islamic reconstruction plan for Gaza.
