Iran’s Supreme Leader endorses Massoud Pezeshkian as the 9th President

TEHRAN – Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, endorsed on Sunday the election of Massoud Pezeshkian as the ninth president of the country, based on Article 110 of the Iranian Constitution.
Massoud Pezeshkian, 69 years old, elected in the second round of the presidential race on July 5, is expected to be sworn before Parliament on Tuesday, July 30, to begin a four-year term. He will succeed Ebrahim Raïssi, who died in a helicopter accident in May.
Mr. Pezeshkian won the second round of the presidential election against Saeed Jalili, with 53.6% of votes against 44.3%, securing nearly 16.4 million out of more than 30 million votes cast.
