Iran’s SNSC sets up new defence council

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) approved setting up the National Defense Council within the framework of Article 176 of the Iranian Constitution, IRNA news agency reported.

“The Defense Council will be tasked with reviewing defense plans and upgrade the capabilities of the armed forces in a centralized manner,” the SNSC statement said.

The council will be chaired by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and will consist of the heads of the three branches of the Iranian government, commanders of the armed forces, and some relevant ministries, the source added.

In June, the Zionist forces and the U.S. launched strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities during the so-called 12-day war, in which Tehran retaliated against the Zionist entity with several barrages of missiles and drones.

On Sunday, the commander-in-chief of Iran’s military, Amir Hatami, warned that “threats from the enemy are not considered over.”

“Iran will now proceed with even greater determination in defense industries, science, technology, and all other fields,” Hatami said.
