Iran’s Foreign Minister Says No Decision Yet on Talks with U.S.; Compensation Key Issue

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Thursday that Tehran has not made any decision regarding the resumption of nuclear negotiations with the United States, emphasizing that demands for compensation and guarantees remain central issues at this stage.

In an interview with Iranian state television, Araghchi addressed the recent attacks on Iran attributed to both Israel and the U.S. “In the last negotiations, they tried to pressure us into abandoning the rights of the Iranian nation,” he said. “When we refused, they imposed war and allowed the criminal Zionist regime to carry out attacks.”

He went on to criticize the approach taken by the U.S. and its allies: “A global power with nuclear weapons and a nuclear-backed regime, supported by Europeans, came together to dismantle the Iranian people and end a 50-year struggle against American hegemony — but they failed.”

Araghchi accused Washington of betraying diplomacy during past talks, a factor that he said will heavily influence any future decisions regarding negotiations. Still, he noted that diplomatic communication continues with the foreign ministers of several countries.

Commenting on U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent statement that talks with Iran would take place “next week,” Araghchi dismissed it, saying: “Don’t take such statements seriously. No agreement has been reached, and no discussions have even taken place. Their remarks are filled with contradictions.”
