Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, stated on Wednesday that the country is prepared to take immediate action in response to any unfavorable resolution passed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors.
Gharibabadi emphasized that such a response would focus on the technical aspects of Iran’s nuclear energy program, particularly involving its advanced centrifuges. His comments come in the wake of a new anti-Iran resolution submitted by several European nations, which accuse Iran of insufficient cooperation with the IAEA, despite the country’s increasing cooperation over recent years.
The Iranian official criticized the European countries for their “unconstructive approach,” referring to their refusal to acknowledge Iran’s goodwill. He pointed out that while these same countries were backing Zionist actions in Gaza, they were preventing the international community from addressing the humanitarian crisis there. Gharibabadi argued that such actions only perpetuate the genocide against the Palestinian people and undermined global efforts for peace.
He also reminded the IAEA and its European trio—France, Germany, and the UK—that international organizations should not be used as political tools against Iran.
Despite tensions, Gharibabadi reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to continuing its policy of interaction with the IAEA, citing recent talks between Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.
Both sides expressed a shared desire to maintain dialogue and resolve differences. However, Gharibabadi made it clear that if the IAEA adopts “unconstructive measures,” Iran will respond with a proportional and necessary reaction to protect its national interests and preserve its sovereignty.
